6th Grade - Space Science (Unit 1)
Welcome to 6th Grade Science! In 6th Grade you will explore Earth and Space Sciences. As we journey through the universe, we will learn about celestial objects both big and small and discuss how we fit in to the seemingly infinite surroundings of Earth.
Enduring Understandings
1. The Universe is an ever changing place of immense size and spectacular phenomena.
2. Organization of the solar system can be used to understand the motion of the stars, sun, moon and planets in the sky.
3. Humans explore the planets, sun and moons to learn about the history future, and nature of the solar system, its planets and life.
To begin our investigation of the Universe, we will start with the farthest reaches and move quickly towards Earth. We will make meaning of the patterns that occur within the solar system to help explain how the Earth, sun and moon interact. We will also examine how Earth is impacted by its position and motion throughout space. Much of what we experience is predictable due to phenomena we see in Outer Space. Finally, we will explore why and how humans study celestial bodies to understand more about our own planet.
